5F Class Assembly

June 22nd, 2009 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

5F class assembly was a popular and exciting event. Lots of parents came to vien the assembly and had a wondeful time.  The acts were fantastic and the effort put in by 5f to make the assembly great was excellent.

We did an assembly about a timeline from 1880 to 2009. South Parade Primary School was opened in 1880 and saw the death of Queen Victoria and was standing when The Titanic was the biggest ship in Britain. In 1914 the cry went out: “Your Country needs you!”. Britain were at war  with Germany. Thousands of Grimsby men were killed or wounded. We remember them every Rememberance Sunday. In 1920, after the first world war, people wanted to be happy. New dances were introduced and music moved on. In 1930 ( also known as the hungry 30′s) the depression started and the war clouds began to gather again. 1939-1945: The second world war started and once again our enemy was Germany. Adolf Hitler started World War 2  and the school was hit by a bomb in 1943. In the 1950′s a new star from a merica was born. His name was Elvis Presley and he was born in 1935. In 1960 The Beatles were in town!

In our 5f class assembly we based it on the 129 years the school has been here. The school has seen many things in those 129 years and that is what we did in our assembly.

We started off with Olivia as Queen Victoria, it was the year 1880. We the moved on to the 1920′s and there was falpper girls and i was one of them along with Eloise and Tiffany. We then moved on to  the 1940′s and tghe war had come and children ahd to be evauated to Skegness. Then we moved on to the 1950′s. Callum was Elvis and we were doing the hand jive while he was singing. then Laura and Ashley did the jive. After that we had the Beatles. They were Bradley,Dylan, Charlie and Jack K. We then had Twiggy and Jean Shrimpton. They were models and they were played by Megan and Harriet. Then, last but not leats, we had AC/DC. I was a head banger and then there was Kade and Michael Morris and everyone else was head banging. Then, after all that, I had to stand up and say, “I hope you anjoyed it” to everyone.

In  my class assemb;y we had a timeline about what the school has seen ove the years. We started at the year 1880 when Queen Victoria was on the throne. Then we did about the flapper in the 1920′s. The flappers were played by Eloise, Tiffany and Jessica. Then we did about the evacuation in the 1940′s . South Parade children were eavacuated to Skegness. Then we did Elvis in rthe 1950′s and it was Callum who played the part. While he was up at the front we were all doing the hand jive! The we moved on to the 1960′s and the Beatles, Twiggy and Jean Shrimpton came along. The Beatles were Bradley, Jack, Dylan and Charlie. Megan was Twiggy and Harriet was Jean Shrimpton. Then we did AC/DC and it was ace! It was Jessica, Kade and Michael Morris, and we  were all head banging. That was all we did.

Our school was built in 1880 and it is the oldest school in Grimsby. The school is still standing in 2009.In the war the school was hit by a bomb and it destroyed two classroms which were replaced last year. In the war another bomb hit  a boys house and he and his famioly all died in it.

In our assembly we had Elvis ‘The King’, The Beatles, Jane Shrimpton, Twiggy and flapper girls. Callum played Elvis, The Beatles were played by Bradley, Jack, Dylan and Charlie. Jane Shrimpton was played by Harriet and Megan pkayed Twiggy. The Flapper girls were Jess, Eloise and Tiffany.

Country Dancing

October 9th, 2008 by · 1 Comment · Uncategorized

2 weeks ago 5F began to learn country dancing. When it was announced that this was to be part of our P.E. curriculum work it was met with some enthusiasm but also a chorus of groans ( you can guess – from the boys). When it was also announced that the children would be dancing with a partner ( of the opposite gender ) the boys became almost mutinous. After some persuasion and imparting the knowledge that if they got in quickly enough they might get a decent looking partner things went with a rush and we quickly had pairings. Some ofthe girls were quick to sign up with a boy of their choice.

After showing the children the steps and the movements we listened to the music CD – Engish traditional dance tunes and away we went.

It was rather chaotic at first but it was clear that some groups began getting the ” feel ” for the dance and hopes were high for a good performance on the following Friday.

The children didn’t disappoint and we had a fantastic session, everyone joining in and the quality of the dancing was is some instances really good. Well done 5F.

Here are a couple of comments from the children:

At first I was a bit scared that my friends would laugh at me but they enjoyed it, then I did. It is really fun, I liked the tune as well and I know the dance off by heart. My partners were Beatrice and Harriet, they were good at it too. I think it’s better than football.    Jack Kirby.

I thought that country dancing was very fun, at first I thought it would be a bit weird dancing with a boy but in the end when we started doing it, it was really fun. I’m really enjoying it. I would really like to continue doing it, the people who found it silly were missing a lot.    Jessica Castro
