2 weeks ago 5F began to learn country dancing. When it was announced that this was to be part of our P.E. curriculum work it was met with some enthusiasm but also a chorus of groans ( you can guess – from the boys). When it was also announced that the children would be dancing with a partner ( of the opposite gender ) the boys became almost mutinous. After some persuasion and imparting the knowledge that if they got in quickly enough they might get a decent looking partner things went with a rush and we quickly had pairings. Some ofthe girls were quick to sign up with a boy of their choice.
After showing the children the steps and the movements we listened to the music CD – Engish traditional dance tunes and away we went.
It was rather chaotic at first but it was clear that some groups began getting the ” feel ” for the dance and hopes were high for a good performance on the following Friday.
The children didn’t disappoint and we had a fantastic session, everyone joining in and the quality of the dancing was is some instances really good. Well done 5F.
Here are a couple of comments from the children:
At first I was a bit scared that my friends would laugh at me but they enjoyed it, then I did. It is really fun, I liked the tune as well and I know the dance off by heart. My partners were Beatrice and Harriet, they were good at it too. I think it’s better than football. Jack Kirby.
I thought that country dancing was very fun, at first I thought it would be a bit weird dancing with a boy but in the end when we started doing it, it was really fun. I’m really enjoying it. I would really like to continue doing it, the people who found it silly were missing a lot. Jessica Castro
